Perfumes with sugar
The sugar note smells of warm, soft sweetness, somewhere between caramelised sugar, candy floss and boiled sweets, and is one of the core gourmand effects in modern perfumery. It is not distilled from anything; it is an accord built from synthetic molecules such as ethyl maltol, maltol and vanillin.
Expect a slightly burnt, creamy sweetness with a fruity edge. Sugar usually sits in the heart of a fragrance, but it lasts well and often carries into the base. It pairs naturally with vanilla, tonka, praline, red berries and musks, and it softens powdery florals.
