Perfumes with Amber

In perfumery, amber describes a warm, sweet, resinous and slightly powdery scent, built as an accord rather than taken from a single raw material. Fossilised amber itself has little smell, so the shared name is misleading.

The accord is typically composed from labdanum, benzoin, vanilla and sometimes tonka bean, producing a golden, enveloping warmth. Because it is dense and long-lasting, amber mostly sits in the base of a fragrance. It works well with spices, incense, rose, patchouli, musk and sandalwood, and it forms the backbone of the warm style often called oriental or amber.

Amber appears in 34,366 perfumes in the Fisfis catalogue and is used mostly as a base note.
