Pomegranate smells tart, juicy and gently sweet with a slightly tannic red-fruit character, giving a fragrance a bright, lively and faintly astringent fruit effect.
The seeds yield no usable perfume extract, so the note is an accord built from red-fruit esters, blackcurrant-like facets and green molecules. It recalls raspberry, redcurrant and a hint of wine. Pomegranate sits mostly in the top of a fragrance and often in the heart. It pairs with rose, peony, blackcurrant, pink pepper, patchouli and musks.
