Perfumes with Mint
Mint smells cool, sharp, green and refreshing, an aromatic note that brings the icy, lively and slightly sweet character of freshly picked mint leaves into a fragrance. Perfumery uses mainly peppermint, Mentha piperita, and spearmint, Mentha spicata, with the United States and India as major producers.
The oil is obtained by steam distillation of the leaves. Peppermint is more mentholated and cooling, while spearmint is sweeter and softer. Mint mostly sits among the top notes, sometimes in the heart. It pairs well with lemon, bergamot, lavender, basil, grapefruit, vetiver, chocolate and musk.
Mint appears in 4,339 perfumes in the Fisfis catalogue and is used mostly as a top note.
