Lotus smells light, watery and clean, with a soft green, faintly sweet floral character, giving fragrances a calm and transparent feel.
Although a small amount of absolute can be obtained from Nelumbo nucifera, the lotus in most perfumes is a fantasy accord built from synthetic aquatic and floral molecules. Depending on the blend it can feel melon-like, powdery or dewy. Lotus is used almost entirely as a heart note. It pairs with water lily, peony, freesia, marine notes, green tea and white musks in fresh, sheer floral compositions.
