Perfumes with Ginger

Ginger smells fresh, sharp, slightly lemony and warm, a lively spice with the zingy, prickly and faintly sweet brightness of freshly cut ginger root. It comes from the rhizome of Zingiber officinale, grown in India, China and Nigeria, among others.

The oil is obtained by steam distillation of dried or fresh rhizomes, or by CO2 extraction, which smells closer to the fresh root. Ginger appears both as a top and a heart note, adding energy to the opening. It pairs well with bergamot, grapefruit, lemon, cardamom, black pepper, cedar, vetiver and musk.

Ginger appears in 6,474 perfumes in the Fisfis catalogue and is used mostly as a top note.
