Perfumes with Cypress

Cypress smells fresh, resinous, green and lightly woody, recalling pine forests, the tall dark trees of Mediterranean landscapes and the scent of resin released in warm air. It comes from the needles and twigs of Cupressus sempervirens, with France and Spain among the main producers.

The oil is obtained by steam distillation of the needles and branches. It is related to juniper and pine but drier and softer. Cypress can appear at every stage of a fragrance, most often in the heart. It pairs well with lavender, bergamot, juniper, cedar, vetiver, incense and musk.

Cypress appears in 2,477 perfumes in the Fisfis catalogue and is used mostly as a heart note.
