Perfumes with Virginia Cedar
Virginia cedar smells dry, clean, slightly sweet and strongly pencil-like, a crisp woody scent that recalls a freshly opened box of pencils and a carpenter's workshop. Botanically it is not a true cedar but a juniper, Juniperus virginiana, native to North America.
The oil is steam-distilled from wood chips and sawdust, and compounds such as cedrol and cedrene define its scent. Virginia cedar mostly sits in the base, giving structure to the composition. It pairs well with vetiver, iris, musk, bergamot, lavender, patchouli and leather, and it is common in clean woody perfumes.
