Perfumes with Vanilla

Vanilla smells sweet, creamy and warm, closer to a rich balsamic and slightly woody note than to plain dessert, with a soft powdery edge in many blends. It comes from the cured pods of Vanilla planifolia, a climbing orchid.

The pods are grown mainly in Madagascar and other tropical regions, fermented and dried, then turned into an absolute or CO2 extract; synthetic vanillin is used even more widely. Being heavy and tenacious, vanilla usually sits in the base, though it also appears in the heart. It pairs well with tonka bean, benzoin, amber, tobacco, sandalwood, musk and jasmine.

Vanilla appears in 35,648 perfumes in the Fisfis catalogue and is used mostly as a base note.
