Perfumes with Tonka

Tonka smells warm, sweet and vanilla-like, with almond, hay and tobacco nuances, giving fragrances a soft, creamy depth in the drydown.

The seeds of Dipteryx odorata, a tree native to South America and grown notably in Venezuela and Brazil, are dried and solvent-extracted into tonka absolute. Its key component is coumarin. Compared with vanilla it is drier, spicier and slightly caramelised. Tonka is overwhelmingly a base note that adds warmth and lasting power. It pairs strongly with vanilla, lavender, tobacco, cacao, coffee, musks and woods.

Tonka appears in 1,415 perfumes in the Fisfis catalogue and is used mostly as a base note.
