Perfumes with Sandalwood
Sandalwood smells creamy, soft, milky and warm, a smooth woody scent with a gentle sweetness rather than the dry sharpness of cedar or pine. It comes from the mature heartwood of Santalum trees, most famously Indian Mysore sandalwood, with Australian species now widely used.
The oil is steam-distilled from the wood, and because natural supplies are scarce, synthetic sandalwood molecules are common. Sandalwood is very tenacious and usually sits in the base, sometimes supporting the heart. It pairs beautifully with rose, jasmine, iris, vanilla, musk, cardamom and amber.
Sandalwood appears in 32,656 perfumes in the Fisfis catalogue and is used mostly as a base note.
