Perfumes with Saffron

Saffron smells warm, slightly sweet, metallic and leathery, a precious spice with honeyed, hay-like and faintly salty facets that linger. It comes from the dried stigmas of Crocus sativus, grown in Iran, Spain and elsewhere, including Turkey's Safranbolu region.

Natural extract is very costly, so most perfumes build the note with synthetic molecules related to safranal. Saffron appears in both the top and the heart, adding warmth and glow to the opening. It pairs well with rose, oud, leather, amber, sandalwood, iris and incense, and it is a signature of Middle Eastern inspired compositions.

Saffron appears in 7,974 perfumes in the Fisfis catalogue and is used mostly as a top note.
