Perfumes with oud

Oud smells dark, smoky, woody and slightly animalic, a dense and long-lasting scent with leathery, barnyard, medicinal, honeyed and resinous facets. It comes from the wood of Aquilaria trees, also called agarwood, which becomes saturated with resin in response to a fungal infection.

Oud oil, traditionally distilled in India and Southeast Asia, is very precious, so most perfumes rely on synthetic oud accords instead. Oud mostly sits in the base and often in the heart. It pairs well with rose, saffron, incense, sandalwood, amber, patchouli and vanilla, and it anchors many Middle Eastern inspired compositions.

oud appears in 3,797 perfumes in the Fisfis catalogue and is used mostly as a base note.
