Perfumes with Guaiac Wood

Guaiac wood smells smoky, smooth, slightly sweet and woody, with soft hints of rose, vanilla and incense that give it a warm, velvety character. It comes from the wood of Bulnesia sarmientoi, a tree native to Paraguay and Argentina.

The oil is steam-distilled from the wood and is semi-solid, often crystallising at room temperature. It is smoother and smokier than cedar and drier than sandalwood. Guaiac wood mostly sits in the base, sometimes in the heart. It pairs well with rose, oud, incense, vetiver, leather, vanilla and musk.

Guaiac Wood appears in 3,706 perfumes in the Fisfis catalogue and is used mostly as a base note.
