Perfumes with Frankincense

Frankincense smells lemony, resinous and peppery with a cool, smoky edge, instantly recalling church incense and giving a fragrance a calm, meditative quality.

The resin seeps from the bark of Boswellia trees in Oman, Somalia and Ethiopia, and is steam-distilled into an essential oil or solvent-extracted into a resinoid. Its scent moves from a fresh, citrusy opening to a dry, mineral, smoky depth. Frankincense is used in the heart and base of a fragrance. It pairs with myrrh, labdanum, cedar, oud, rose, black pepper and vetiver.

Frankincense appears in 1,516 perfumes in the Fisfis catalogue and is used mostly as a heart note.
