Perfumes with Cedarwood

Cedarwood smells dry, clean, lightly resinous and warm, recalling a freshly opened wooden box, pencil shavings and the faintly sweet air of a conifer forest. In perfumery the name covers Atlas cedar, Himalayan cedar and North American junipers sold as cedar.

The oil is steam-distilled from wood chips and sawdust, and synthetic woody molecules derived from cedar oil are also widespread. Cedarwood usually sits in the base, giving structure and longevity to the composition. It pairs well with vetiver, patchouli, musk, iris, bergamot, lavender and amber.

Cedarwood appears in 4,715 perfumes in the Fisfis catalogue and is used mostly as a base note.
