Perfumes with Cassis

Cassis, the French name for blackcurrant, smells tart, juicy and green, with a distinctive sulphurous, slightly catty twang that sets it apart from other dark berries.

Perfumers mostly use an absolute solvent-extracted from the buds of the Ribes nigrum shrub rather than the fruit, often rounded out with synthetic fruity molecules. The effect is sharp, leafy and tangy at first, then softer and jammy. Cassis is overwhelmingly a top note that brightens the opening. It pairs well with rose, violet, bergamot, jasmine and musks, and it adds lift to chypres.

Cassis appears in 1,935 perfumes in the Fisfis catalogue and is used mostly as a top note.
