Blood orange smells sweet, juicy and slightly tart with a red-berry nuance, a darker, fruitier and more vivid citrus opening than ordinary sweet orange.
The peel of blood orange varieties of Citrus sinensis, many of them grown in Sicily, is cold-pressed to obtain the oil. The scent combines the sparkle of orange zest with a slight bitterness reminiscent of raspberry and grapefruit. Blood orange is almost always a top note. It pairs with bergamot, grapefruit, neroli, black pepper, rose, vetiver and musks.
