Perfumes with Basil

Basil smells fresh, green, sweet and spicy, with hints of anise and licorice, an aromatic note that carries the lively scent of freshly crushed leaves. It comes from the leaves and flowering tops of Ocimum basilicum, produced in Egypt, India and the Comoros, among others.

The oil is obtained by steam distillation, and depending on the variety it leans more floral or more anisic. Basil mostly sits among the top notes, often extending into the heart. It pairs well with lemon, lime, bergamot, mint, tomato leaf, cedar and musk, and it gives citrus compositions a green, herbal twist.

Basil appears in 2,665 perfumes in the Fisfis catalogue and is used mostly as a top note.
