Apple smells fresh, juicy, slightly tart and green, recalling a crisp bite of a green apple or, in sweeter versions, the sugary skin of a ripe red apple. There is no natural apple extract in perfumery, so the note is built from synthetic molecules.
Green apple feels crisp and sour, while red apple reads riper and sweeter; both rely on fruity esters. Apple sits mostly among the top notes, brightening the opening. It pairs well with cinnamon, bergamot, lemon, rose, freesia, cedar, vanilla and musk, and it appears in both fresh and gourmand compositions.
