Perfumes with Tolu Balsam

Tolu balsam smells warm, sweet and vanilla-like with cinnamon and faintly floral nuances, from the South American Myroxylon balsamum tree; it is softer and lighter than Peru balsam.

The balsam seeps from cuts made in the trunk of trees growing in Colombia and Venezuela and is solvent-extracted into a resinoid. Its benzoic and cinnamic components give vanilla, caramel and slight hyacinth-like tones. Tolu balsam sits mainly in the base of a fragrance and acts as a fixative. It pairs with vanilla, benzoin, labdanum, tonka, tobacco and spices.

Tolu Balsam appears in 831 perfumes in the Fisfis catalogue and is used mostly as a base note.
