Pine smells fresh, sharp, green and woody, like needles and resin on a cold day, giving a fragrance a forest-air coolness with a light turpentine sparkle.
Needles and twigs of Pinus species, especially Scots pine, are steam-distilled into pine needle oil, whose main components are alpha-pinene, beta-pinene and bornyl acetate. The scent recalls damp forest floor, resin and crisp air. Pine sits mainly in the heart of a fragrance and also appears in the top and base. It pairs with fir, juniper, lavender, cedar, frankincense, vetiver and leather.
