Perfumes with Peru Balsam

Peru balsam smells warm, sweet and vanilla-like with cinnamon and resinous facets, giving a fragrance a soft, enveloping and slightly caramelised depth in the drydown.

Despite its name, the balsam comes mostly from El Salvador, collected from the trunk of Myroxylon balsamum var. pereirae and then processed by distillation or solvent extraction. Benzyl benzoate and cinnamates give it its vanilla, caramel and light cinnamon impression. Peru balsam sits mainly in the base of a fragrance and acts as a fixative. It pairs with vanilla, benzoin, tonka, labdanum and tobacco.

Peru Balsam appears in 961 perfumes in the Fisfis catalogue and is used mostly as a base note.
