Perfumes with Orris Root
Orris root smells powdery, velvety and cool, with a violet-like, faintly earthy and carrot-like facet; it is a very costly natural material.
Rhizomes of Iris pallida and Iris germanica are dried for several years so that the fragrant irones can develop, then steam-distilled into a waxy 'orris butter'. The result smells like make-up powder and lipstick, yet also skin-like and rooty. Orris is mainly a heart note that lingers into the base. It pairs with violet, mimosa, musks, vetiver, cedar and vanilla, and it lends polish to leather and suede accords.
Orris Root appears in 1,953 perfumes in the Fisfis catalogue and is used mostly as a heart note.
