Perfumes with olibanum

Olibanum, also called frankincense, smells fresh, lemony, peppery and smoky, a luminous resin that recalls incense burning in a cool stone sanctuary. It comes from the resin of Boswellia sacra and Boswellia carterii trees, harvested mainly in Oman, Somalia and Ethiopia.

Steam distillation of the resin produces an essential oil, while solvent extraction yields a resinoid. It is brighter and fresher than myrrh, with a clean, almost citrusy lift. Olibanum appears in the heart and base, and sometimes in the opening. It pairs well with myrrh, rose, oud, vetiver, cedar, labdanum, pink pepper and musk.

olibanum appears in 2,956 perfumes in the Fisfis catalogue and is used mostly as a heart note.
