Perfumes with Incense
Incense smells smoky, dry, resinous and faintly lemony, a solemn scent that recalls an old stone sanctuary, burning resin and cool still air. In perfumery it is usually an accord that evokes burned resins rather than a single raw material.
Its core is typically olibanum, or frankincense, often joined by myrrh, elemi and synthetic smoky molecules. Incense can be noticed from the opening to the drydown, but it most often sits in the heart and base. It pairs well with oud, rose, saffron, vetiver, cedar, labdanum and leather, and it gives compositions a meditative, austere depth.
Incense appears in 6,538 perfumes in the Fisfis catalogue and is used mostly as a heart note.
