Perfumes with Geranium

Geranium smells like a greener, mintier and more lemony rose, fresh, crisp and slightly metallic, much like a crushed leaf of the plant. The oil comes not from the flowers but from the leaves and stems of Pelargonium graveolens, produced in Egypt, China and Réunion.

It is obtained by steam distillation, and Bourbon geranium from Réunion is particularly prized. Geranium mostly sits in the heart, sometimes in the opening, and is used in both masculine and feminine compositions. It pairs well with lavender, rose, bergamot, patchouli, vetiver, mint and cedar, and it is a frequent part of fougère accords.

Geranium appears in 7,987 perfumes in the Fisfis catalogue and is used mostly as a heart note.
