Perfumes with ambroxan

Ambroxan smells dry, woody, slightly salty and musky, a modern ambery note that leaves a radiant, warm, skin-like trail very similar to ambergris. It is a synthetic molecule produced from sclareol, a compound obtained from clary sage.

Developed as a substitute for ambergris, ambroxan has become one of the most widely used materials in modern perfumery. Some people perceive it strongly, while others barely notice it. Being tenacious, it mostly sits in the base. It pairs well with bergamot, grapefruit, sea notes, vetiver, cedar, musk, iris and rose.

ambroxan appears in 2,945 perfumes in the Fisfis catalogue and is used mostly as a base note.
