Ambrette smells soft, musky and skin-like with hints of pear and wine: the seed of musk mallow, a plant musk that has nothing to do with amber despite the similar name.
Seeds of Abelmoschus moschatus are steam-distilled into an oil or solvent-extracted into an absolute; its character comes from macrocyclic musky molecules such as ambrettolide. It has long served as a plant-based alternative to animal musk. The scent is warm, velvety and gently fruity. Ambrette sits in the base and heart of a fragrance. It pairs with orris, rose, neroli, musks, sandalwood and pear.
