Perfumes with Aldehydes

Perfumes with Aldehydes

Aldehydes smell bright, fizzy, soapy and slightly waxy, an abstract sparkle that recalls clean sheets, the steam of a hot iron and champagne bubbles. They are fatty aldehydes such as C-10, C-11 and C-12, present in nature but used in perfumery in synthetic form.

On their own they smell sharp and metallic; in small amounts they lift and brighten floral compositions. Aldehydes are felt mostly in the opening, as a top note. They pair well with rose, jasmine, lily of the valley, iris, ylang-ylang, sandalwood and musk, and they define the classic aldehydic floral style.

Aldehydes appears in 2,790 perfumes in the Fisfis catalogue and is used mostly as a top note.
