Balsamic perfumes
The balsamic accord is the warm, sweetish, slightly vanillic and sticky smell of balsams and resins that seep from certain trees. It adds density, depth and a soft warmth to a fragrance.
Peru and tolu balsam, benzoin, styrax, labdanum and copaiba are its typical materials, many of them naturally rich in benzoates and cinnamates. Balsamic notes sit in the base and act as fixatives, helping the whole composition last longer. They pair readily with amber, vanilla, warm spices, woods and incense. Because of their enveloping character, balsamic fragrances are most often worn in autumn and winter and in the evening.
